Steve Tierney is an Australian illustrator and designer based in Cambodia. He lives and works from a small studio in Phnom Penh, collaborating with others to find creative experiences that centre on social awareness and development.
While continuing to work for commercial clients locally and internationally, he also teaches art and skateboarding to Khmer youths as a volunteer.
Since visiting several remote indigenous art communities of North East Arnhem Land in 2010 his artistic direction has become more influenced by community development and social transformation. The experience also sparked an interest in wanting to learn diverse art techniques of different cultures.
In June 2011 he completed a four week artist residency at Arquetopia in Puebla, Mexico. A non-profit foundation promoting international experiences and collaborations that centre on creating a positive impact in society.
In addition to commercial illustration and design, he has held solo and group exhibits of his art and paintings in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tokyo.
